Naturopathic doctor
Naturopathic Doctor in Victoria BC, Winnipeg MB & Online!
Are you struggling to find comprehensive medical care?
Are you tired of waiting to connect with your doctor, being told you can only discuss one concern per visit, waiting years to see a specialist, having your complaints dismissed, being told everything looks normal even though you don’t feel well, or leaving with only a pharmaceutical prescription after your short visit?
Did you know that over half of Canadian adults aged 18 to 79 have used at least one prescription medication in the past month?
If these concerns sound familiar to you, chances are you aren’t receiving the kind of care that you need to step forward into your health and healing.
Working with a naturopathic doctor is very different!
Symptoms (whether physical, mental, emotional, or even spiritual) are an expression of imbalance in the mind and body which we have become conditioned to think needs to be resolved, oftentimes immediately.
These symptoms are actually an innate response and adaption to your internal and external environment and can be both acute and chronic in nature. While it may not feel like it, your mind and body is working with you, not against you when this is occurring.
Oftentimes this is where we interfere, trying to stop this natural process in its tracks. We take painkillers for headaches, drink caffeine for energy, and medications to fall asleep believing the absence of the symptom is indicative of a solved problem.
It may come as no surprise to realize this is short-sighted medicine: the actual cause of the imbalance is not being addressed and the body’s attempt to work through that stress is met with a suppressive intervention.
I certainly do not want my patients to struggle through pain and am not suggesting they suffer, but I am proposing there is another way.
Naturopathic medicine is about respecting and embracing the innate healing potential and wisdom of the body, including the incredible interconnectedness of our body, mind, and spirit.
No concern is too big or small when it comes to my naturopathic medical practice.
I want to hear the finer details about your health and understand your symptoms in order to identify the root cause(s) of your ailments – having an official diagnosis is not a prerequisite. Just because your concerns don’t fall on this list doesn’t mean you don’t qualify for care.
I am inspired by and work best with those who truly desire to dive into their health and align with a naturopathic approach.

FAQs
A “naturopath” is a generalized term which is often afforded to individuals who have completed online trainings of varying credibility and is not a regulated title.
When health practitioners call themselves “naturopaths” it often indicates they do not have the accredited medical training of naturopathic doctors. This is confusing to patients who are seeking a specific level of medical care and troubling to our profession as we have strict licensing regulations to ensure we are providing the best care to our patients. The term “naturopathic doctor” is protected by law in Manitoba and British Columbia.
Yes, I am a real doctor!
I graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon - the oldest naturopathic university in North America and one of the oldest institutions of doctorate level study of natural medicine. There are currently five accredited naturopathic medical schools in the United States and two in Canada.
As a naturopathic doctor, I received rigorous training in biomedicine as well as comprehensive training in naturopathic philosophy and therapeutics. Since coursework in natural therapeutics is added to a standard medical curriculum, naturopathic doctors often receive significantly more hours of classroom education in these areas than the graduates of many leading medical schools. In British Columbia Naturopathic Doctors can work as primary care doctors and in Manitoba we are considered adjunctive care.
Licensed naturopathic doctors in British Columbia and Manitoba must meet the following requirements:
- Completion of an undergraduate degree (minimum 3 years), including pre-medical sciences.
- Completion of a 4-year full time doctorate program in an accredited school of Naturopathic Medicine in Canada or the United States.
- Completion of two North American board examinations, along with provincial licensing examinations.
- Maintain licensure through continuing education requirements legislated by the Manitoba Naturopathic Association and College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia.
My provincial and national governing bodies are the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia, Manitoba Naturopathic Association and Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
I offer services as a naturopathic doctor in Victoria BC, and Winnipeg MB with online sessions available for those anywhere in British Columbia and Manitoba.
Health coaching is not a regulated health profession in Canada and, as a result, they can vary greatly in their knowledge, training, and qualifications. While many can be helpful and supportive in your care, it is important to have a regulated medical professional who is trained in diagnosis, lab interpretation, and pharmaceutical use, especially if these are pertinent to your current health.
I love homeopathy and utilize it often in my practice, but it is only one of many tools available to us as naturopathic doctors and not all NDs choose to use homeopathy. Other medical providers may use homeopathy as well, and it does not make them naturopathic doctors.
In short, all of them!
Since naturopathic medicine focuses on the health of the entire body and not the specific disease, there is rarely a case where supporting the vitality of the overall system is contraindicated. Naturopathic medicine has the ability to assist with any condition that is treated with conventional interventions. Additionally, many conditions that are deemed “untreatable” by allopathic physicians have been dramatically improved with naturopathic therapies.
With that in mind, I have a keen interest in treating digestive imbalances, autoimmune conditions, mental/emotional health, chronic pain, endocrine imbalances (fatigue, weight gain, poor sleep, thyroid imbalances, blood sugar management, and hormonal health), and working with patients who are generally looking to step into a more vital state of health.

Yes, very much so. Naturopathic medicine has its own unique body of knowledge, evolved and refined through experience for centuries. It also incorporates scientific advances from medical disciplines throughout the world.
Many of the individual therapies used in naturopathic medical practice have been scientifically validated, especially in the area of clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, and physical manipulation. Research is vital to any profession and is consistently being done throughout the globe.
Yes. This is largely due to its use of gentle, natural, non-toxic, and non-invasive treatments. Naturopathic doctors are well-trained to recognize when a treatment could interact with another medication or cause harm due to another health condition. Also, naturopathic doctors are trained to recognize conditions that are outside their scope of practice and will refer to another health care provider when appropriate.
Pregnant women, newborns, and all others including those in the geriatric phase of life can safely use naturopathic medicine. Terminally ill persons can benefit safely as well.
